Enterprising Software Designer and Developer

IT Technician Experience

Full Stack Developer

System1

01 / EXPERIENCE

I spent this term working as a Full Stack Developer for System1. I spent time doing both front end and backend fixes for the compliance team. Above all, I spearheaded a project to replace the company's scheduler system for updating their databases.

02 / AIRFLOW

I spent two months researching and implementing a new scheduler system called Airflow, a python-based scheduler that I leveraged to combine both the Microsoft SQL scheduler, and the Snowflake scheduler into one point of entry.

03 / COMPLIANCE  DEVELOPMENT

Throughout the term, I worked on various tickets for implementing new features and fixes in the compliance dashboard product System1 provides. This includes small things like connection bug fixes, to entirely new features

Full Stack Developer Reflections

This co-op term with the System1 was by far my favourite. I was able to deliver a quality product that will save the company time and money. I refined my knowledge in languages such as C#, Angular, and Python. I learned an entirely new scheduling system known as Airflow. I was able to observe how a large-scale company operates, and how a small team within a large company can have such an influential impact on every area. Above all, I have enhanced my confidence in my personal abilities, and believe that given any challenge, I can overcome it.

This co-op with System1 was above and beyond my favourite. It helped me learn so many abilities that I want to be core to my work in the future, including new languages, leading team projects, and understanding scope and impact.. I truly believe that my experience at System1 will last me a lifetime, and it is the one job that I would go back to in a heartbeat.

IT Technician Experience

IT Technician

Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery

01 / EXPERIENCE

I spent this term working as an IT Technician for the Government of Ontario. Specifically, the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery. From there, I partook in managing the Windows based government servers across all of Ontario.

02 / SERVERS AND VM MANAGEMENT

I worked with several members of my team to plan, organize, schedule, and execute the patching of windows-based servers. I troubleshooted and resolved issues and technical difficulties.

03 / INTEGRAL

In the last month of my term, I was integral in building a roadmap for the future. I conducted the ground-level research within the team, and coalesced the data into a visual presentation. This generated positive engagement and guided the team towards a path of success.

Reflections

This co-op term with the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery was enlightening, not only to the roles and responsibilities of the IT industry, but also the foundations our government is built on. I learned to work with a variety of people, and thrive in less-than-optimal working environments. I learned much about the patching processes of Windows-based servers, and how the small Wintel team manages to juggle these important processes. In essence, I learned about how the government keeps these important data servers up to date, efficient, and operational.

On a personal level, I rediscovered that I have power to take action, and change my working environment to be more efficient and productive. This co-op allowed me to rediscover my powerful initiative, and take charge on what needed to be done.

UI/UX Designer

Communitech, Digital Main Street

01 / EXPERIENCE

During my co-op with Digital Main Street, I was able to do work on design for many small businesses. Four examples of small businesses I worked with are displayed below in the gallery, as well as the companies I have worked under before.

02 / GRAPHIC                   CONSULTATION

I worked closely with the graphic designer on my team. Together, we created and transformed small business colour palettes and logos to truly make them stand out against the competition.

03 / TEAM PLAYER

The work at Digital Main Street was done in teams of 4-6 and I had the pleasure of working with talented, like-minded individuals. Through this  I gained experience in a variety of other fields such as traditional and social media marketing, and graphic design.

Reflections

This co-op term with Digital Main Street taught me many things. It allowed me to experience the software design process first hand, as well as working with a professional team in a professional environment. I came away from this co-op understanding what I need to work on, including time management and requirements gathering.

The co-op with Digital Main Street also solidified my understanding and reinforced my confidence in delivering the required product, in a satisfying and beyond satisfactory way.
